Biosecurity is the set of practical measures taken to limit the spread of infectious diseases, both within a farm and from one farm to another, or from elsewhere. Ensuring good biosecurity throughout the entire supply chain is the first line of defence against diseases such as African Swine Fever (ASF), PRRS and PEDv.

In order to be able to optimize production results, pig farms have to aim for a high health status, so as to keep the costs of disease prevention under control. This can be done, for example, by putting pathogen free animals into the farm and having the right design to maintain a high health status.

A fence around the farm and no trucks in the clean zone make very little room for contamination.
LOCATION AWAY FROM MAIN ROADS
Avoid close distance to bigger roads where transport of other pigs is heavy. Avoid placement close to other pig farms or slaughterhouses.
All-In–All-Out (AIAO)
All-In–All-Out (AIAO) system helps to prevent diseases from spreading inside the farms. Making sure old pigs do not infect young pigs. The right farm layout can secure a possible All-In–All-Out flow.
FOCUS ON INFECTION POINTS
When designing the farm, it is important to consider where an infection can occur.
Then focus on securing those points, by installing different products that easier can kill the bacteria or other biosecurity installments for the workers.
